Let's make a Greeting Tag for a friend!

A really easy way to get started making your very own sig tags.

1. You will need this picture.

This photograph is not copyright and belongs to me.

Feel free to use it as you wish!

Right click on the picture, then go to 'save picture as'

After saving this image open it up in Paint Shop Pro 7.

2. Now go to 'File' then 'New'

and set the new image to these settings.

Click OK

3. Move your cursor to the rectangle just under the word Style

and hold down the left mouse button.

Important! Keep holding it down

This little box pops up

and as you do moving your cursor to select this.

Now click once on the rectangle just under the word 'Style'

and this box (Gradient) pops up.

Choose a gradient then click OK

When you are more used to using the Paint Shop Pro program

you can adjust your gradients for yourself.

When you get time have a play around with these.

4. Select flood fill!

Place your cursor on your transparent image

and press the left mouse button.

5. Here is what my image looks like,

filled with the gradient of my choice.

6. Now go to the photograph of the rose.

Zoom in on the photo with the magnifying glass if you need to.

I know I find this helps.

7. Now select the selections tool.

Make sure your tool options box is visible.

If it is not visible go to 'View',

then select toolbars

and make sure 'Tools Options Palette' is checked.

8. This box will hover until you move your cursor onto it.

This does take a bit of getting used to.

These are the settings to use for this tutorial.

9. Place your cursor somewhere in the middle of the main rose.

Holding down the left mouse buttone select an area,

as shown below.

10. Then go to 'Edit' and select 'Copy'

11. Now go to the image you have filled with your gradient.

12. Then go to 'Edit', then 'Paste'

and then move your cursor to 'As New Selection'

Place the selection where you want it,

and then click the left mouse button.

You can undo this step by going to Edit and down to Undo.

Now go to 'Selections' and choose 'Select None'

13. You now need the text tool.

You can do lots of fancy text with Paint Shop Pro,

but we are using standard text for this tutorial.

14. Place your cursor somewhere on your image

and press the left mouse button.

This box will appear.

Please choose these settings.

Type text in the text box here.

Click OK

15. Go to 'Effects' and move your cursor down to '3D Effects',

then across and down to 'Inner Bevel'.

These were my settings but you can choose your own.

I also added a drop shadow effect too.

16. Now go to 'Selections' and choose 'Select None'

17. Move your cursor to the rectangle,

just under the word Style and hold down the left mouse button.

Important! Keep holding it down.

This little box pops up again!

and as you do moving your cursor to select this (brush).

The styles boxes will look something that looks like this now,

though the colours may be different.

Tip!

If you hover your cursor over places,

this will tell you what you are seeing.

18. Take your cursor to the rectangle,

just above the word textures.

You will notice the cursor changes into a colour dropper.

This is how you choose a background colour.

Click once and this box will pop up.

Do not be put off.

I was and now know what I have been missing.

You will notice the colour dropper is active here too!

You can click on one of the basic colours to the left,

or to choose a shade,

click somewhere around the circle

and then to choose a shade of that colour click on the inner square.

You will notice you can see the colour you have chosen,

where it says 'new colour'.

19. Now go to Image - then Add Border - and this box pops up.

(If a window pops up telling you,

that the function can only be performed on a singe layer,

click yes.)

You can change these settings to suit yourself.

Click OK

You should have a border with the colour of your choice around your image now.

20. Now select the magic wand.

The options for the wand should be set as below.

Click once on your border.

21. Go to 'Effects' move your cursor down to '3D Effects'

then across and down to 'Outer Bevel'.

Your image will look something like this,

depending on the colour of your border.

22. Go to 'Effects' move your cursor down to 'Reflection Effects',

then across and down to 'Pattern'

Here are my settings.

Now go to 'Selections' and choose 'Select None'
